Razer Ornata Chroma Gaming Keyboard Overview
With this keyboard you get the best of both worlds when it comes to keyboards as it is both membrane and mechanical. This means you get a soft touch with the keys but give off a crisp click. It has mid-height keys to reduce the time for your actions to register allowing you to move freely without missing any keys.
Unfortunately this only offers one way in which you can connect it to your computer which is USB. If you have a desk set up this won’t be a problem for you as plenty of wire so you won’t be stretched, however if you have a setup where you are using the TV it could potentially be a problem but there are ways around this.
Design and Comfort
Razer has definitely thought long and hard about the design and comfort of this keyboard, first of all as mentioned before this is a between mechanical and membrane as it offers the same soft touch as membrane but you still get a very crisp click with every touch. This is to make this keyboard for gamers and for your daily users as it is hard to use a normal keyboards for gaming and a gaming one for daily uses. With this keyboard you will also have a good sized wrist rest included which connects to the bottom of the keyboard by magnets to ensure it doesn’t move.
Even though it is just a keyboard it does have a good spec level for it being a budget gaming keyboard. For example as we have already discussed it has mecha-membrane technology for all around comfort. You have Razer Chroma back lighting which can be changed to any of the 16 million plus colours, along with the different the 8 different lighting effects that the Razer Synapse software offers. With this software you are able to rebind control and assign macros to any razer peripheral which then automatically saves it to the cloud. There is also a dedicated game mode for the keyboard so that when you hit certain keys accidentally while in game it won’t interrupt your session. A bonus for this keyboard is that it is compatible with Xbox One with a basic input.
This is the keyboard that I currently own and have done for the last year and overall I have been very impress. I don’t currently have a desk so I do struggle with it being wired but I have since purchased a USB extension cable so this is no longer a problem. I have used the wrist support for a short while and it is very comfortable and does help a lot. It is a good all-rounder keyboard for both daily tasks and gaming as it does have the partial mechanical feel about it. The main problem that I have is the software for the keyboard, the lighting software is very easy to use and easily understandable but when it comes to programming the keys it does get a bit confusing, but saying that I have never had a need to change any keys so I haven’t looked to far into this. The gaming mode is a bonus as there have been a couple of times when I have hit the windows key and it opens the start menu over the game which can get irritating so the fact this stops that from happening is handy. I do think this is a good keyboard if you aren’t just gaming, most of the software is easy to use and the keyboard is very comfortable.
